Yesterday, hundreds of peaceful protestors gathered outside Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., to demonstrate against corporate money in politics. Reportedly, all are taking part in the #DemocracySpring campaign which extends until April 18th.

The protestors began their plight by marching 150 miles from the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia over the period of a week. Less than an hour after arriving, however, police officials warned that they would arrest all in attendance.

Because the peaceful protestors are campaigning against corruption in politics, they ignored the warning. This resulted in approximately 400 people being arrested – the most arrests at the capitol in America’s history. Did any mainstream media outlet cover this news, however? Absolutely not.

USUncut relays that while the movement has garnered over 53,000 tweets on Twitter, most major news stations are staying silent about the rally.

The protest’s organizer, Kai Newkirk of the group 99Rise, fired up the crowd with the following message:

“We send a message — to everyone in our country who needs a government that represents us all — that this House is your House too, and now is the time to stand up and to take it back.”

According to the Democracy Spring website,  the campaign’s goal is to “demand a Congress that will take immediate action to end the corruption of big money in our politics and ensure free and fair elections in which every American has an equal voice.”

In addition, the 3,600+ people backing the campaign support the Government by the People Act & Fair Elections Now Actthe Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2015Voter Empowerment Act of 2015; and the Democracy for All Amendment.

Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks was one of the individuals to take part in the sit-in. He spoke for most when he said:

“They can arrest us today and they can arrest us tomorrow, but we’re gonna keep coming back. They can’t arrest the whole country.”

With Donald Trump as a possible presidential contender, Kanye West being hailed as a genius, and mainstream news sources filtering need-to-know content from the masses, educated Americans want change. And, they’re willing to risk police brutality and skid marks on their track record to inspire others to elect to participate, as well.

Even though hundreds have been arrested, the mood of the sit-in remains peaceful and even celebratory as activists make a bold statement. Reportedly, more people are planning to bus in throughout the course of the week, so it’s safe to say that more arrests are on the way.  What will police do now?
