Major Fast Food Chains Are Dropping Sodas From Their Kids Meals

Since the start of the year, a number of major fast food chains have announced that they will be removing soda as an option from their kids meals. This move is in an effort to meet a market demand for healthier options, as fast food restaurants have seen falling profits in recent years, and consumers have become more health conscious.

Make no mistake about it, it’s still not a good idea to eat fast food, but these changes give us an indication that people truly are becoming more concerned about their health.

It was recently reported by USA Today that Burger King will be replacing soda with fat-free milk, low-fat chocolate milk and apple juice in their Kids Meals. In the past year, Wendy’s and McDonalds have made similar changes, in a desperate attempt to improve their terrible public image.

Alex Macedo, president of Burger King North America, told USA Today that the changes were “part of our ongoing effort to offer our guests options that match lifestyle needs.”

What this shows is that junk food is no longer the popular paradigm, and also that parents are beginning to take a more active role in their children’s diets, as well as their own. Lobbyists for fast food corporations can bribe politicians and regulators, but they can’t ignore the demands of their customers unless they want to lose their business.
