Lines Out The Door For Amy’s Organic, Plant-based Drive-Thru Restaurant!

Earlier in July, Amy’s Drive Thru restaurant opened its doors to a highly anxious public enthusiastic about sampling its gluten-free, dairy-free, and meat-free fare. As EatLocalGrown reports, reception to the US’ first completely vegetarian drive thru restaurant has been overwhelmingly positive, with lines out the door at times.

Before you speculate that the restaurant serves only tofu and broccoli, take a look at the menu. The popular joint offers everything from burgers and pizzas to burritos and non-dairy milkshakes. The cuisine is being received incredibly well by the public, who can’t get enough of the healthy alternative to greasy fast food.

Lines have reportedly been out the door since it opened in July in Rohnert Park. Its location is about 50 miles north of San Francisco, and the establishment has already gathered close to 250 Yelp reviews. Overall, it has about a 4-star rating.

“Where has this place been for my whole life?” Emily P. posted to Yelp. “The chocolate milkshakes at this place made my year!”

The first-of-its-kind restaurant is filling the void left by modern-day customers’ changing tastes and preference for non-GMO, organic, gluten-free and vegan options. The fare is even satiating customers who say they would normally never consider eating this way.

“This is not a place I would have ever seek out myself, or even dare to go,” wrote Jonathan B. in his review, citing a disdain for vegetarian meals before trying the broccoli mac and cheese. “Wow. This place is absolutely amazing.”

Amy’s Drive Thru has a socially conscious ambience throughout – promising health benefits and a living wage for its workers. Inside, tables are made out of repurposed car parts and tableware is made from recyclable materials. Nearly 90% of the food serves is organic and is sourced locally when possible. The restaurant also grows some of its ingredients on its rooftop garden, fed by a water tower that collects rain.

For those who don’t know, Amy’s Drive Thru is a spinoff of Amy’s Kitchen, a popular frozen food company that has specialized in vegan and vegetarian meals since the 1980’s. The founders, Andy and Rachel Berliner, named both companies after their daughter. Before being able to create the restaurant’s centerpiece burger – “The Amy” – they tested more than 1,000 combinations of vegetarian ingredients. But that classic is part of what draws hungry diners from all around.

In addition to a non-dairy milkshake made with almond or coconut milk, there’s little to complain about when consuming such delectable fare.

It’s safe to say customers are truly “Lovin’ It.” Will healthy restaurant chains like Amy’s someday take over unhealthy establishments like McDonald’s?
