9. Open Surgery

If the stone is too large to go through a tube, then open surgery is the last option. This is only when the stone is too large, which means a doctor must cut you open and remove the stone or stones directly from the kidney. While this is also done under general anesthesia, a hospital stay of a few days is also required for recovery. Just like with any other medical issue, always consult a doctor if you have symptoms of kidney stones to make sure that you receive the correct treatment.
