6. Shock Wave Lithotripsy
If the kidney stones cannot be prevented or flushed out, then the next step in treatment must be doctor directed. Shock Wave Lithotripsy basically ‘uses shock waves to break up the kidney stones into small pieces.’ Most patients undergo general anesthesia while undergoing treatment, which usually lasts up to 45 minutes. Once the stones are broken up, they can then get passed out of the body through the urine.
