Joe Rogan On Addiction, Video Games And The Joy Of Living In The Real World

Instead of escaping from reality, we need to embrace it in order to live fulfilling lives

Joe Rogan talks about addiction and the search for a meaningful life in another insightful excerpt from his radio show, The Joe Rogan Experience. The comedian-turned-philosopher examines our desire to escape reality through alcohol, drugs, gambling and video games, which he believes are a way of “distracting yourself from the pain of being human.”

Rogan says life should be about seeking out your true path, pursuing your desires, and finding activities that make you happy and create positive energy. These things, he says, are under-rated in our society. We are told to get a career, but the emphasis is on success and money rather than individual dreams. With such an imbalance in our collective focus, it’s no wonder that millions of humans find real life impossible to cope with.

“I don’t think you should ever escape reality,” Rogan says. “Life can be a magical, intense, fantastic experience if you manage it correctly.” He makes a good point that if we were born inside a computer simulation and suddenly had the opportunity to live in the real world, we would be overwhelmed with joy at every small thing: “If we were offered the real world as a video game, the real world would be so much more fantastic,” Rogan claims. “We just don’t think of it that way because we’re so used to it.”

We want to play video games to be in control, to overcome our anxieties and insecurities. But for Rogan, these normal human emotions, however negative, can act as a compass in life, leading us out of darkness to fulfillment and positivity.

This is a must-watch video for anyone who has struggled with addition, or knows someone who has. It’s never too late to take control, pursue your dreams, and create a new life full of positive energy.
