An amazing idea in order to lessen the plastic waste in the environment was proposed by a young man from Cameroon who started transforming littered bottles into “EcoBoats.”

A young genius, Ismael Essome Ebone got inspired to create a boat using plastic bottles after seeing all this plastic waste float along floodwaters in a storm last 2011. He began to collect all the used plastic bottles in his town and developed what is now known as “EcoBoat.”

After completing his chosen mode of transport, another storm came and he was able to test his creation. To the amazement of all the fishermen watching in the shore, Ebone’s boat navigated perfectly.

He was so inspired with the success of his EcoBoat prototype, that he invested all his savings into launching Madiba & Nature: a nonprofit charity that is dedicated to collecting plastic waste throughout the region and then upcycling it all into boats for fishermen and furthering the country’s ecotourism.

The charity has been such a success that just a few months ago, the Cameroonian organization put up the nation’s first EcoBin in order to collect, sort and recycle all plastic waste.

“The EcoBin makes it easier to collect plastic bottles in a smart way and avoid polluting rivers and the ocean in Kribi and Douala! From plastic waste to EcoBoat and EcoBin, the revolution is on the way,” as seen on the nonprofit’s Facebook page.

What do you think about upcycling all plastic bottles into something more useful for your country?
