You don’t need to go to a Donald Trump rally to witness Islamophobia, all one needs to do is turn on the news or go to the grocery store on a particularly busy day. The anti-Muslim racism that has permeated Europe and America is prevalent and that in itself is quite disturbing.

Between Muslim girls being harassed at an ice cream shop and anti-Muslim hate crimes taking place, the world has become a dangerous and somewhat dismal place for followers of the religion. Fortunately, more and more people are beginning to understand that being Muslim doesn’t make one a terrorist. Clinging to close-minded, hateful ideals and acting as an extremist (of any religion – the KKK, anyone?) is what makes one a terrorist.

Because this truth has been a difficult one to acknowledge, a Paris-based illustrator created the following illustration to walk the general public through what they should do when they witness Islamophobic behavior taking place.

The artist, who goes by the name of Maeril, illustrated the following because of the increased pressure the Islamic community in France has experienced following recent terrorist attacks. It is her aim to encourage people to assist Muslims who have been unfairly targeted because of their faith.

Maeril wrote on her Tumblr page:

“I’m focusing on protecting Muslims here. As they have been very specific targets lately, and as a French Middle Eastern woman, I wanted to try and do something to raise awareness on how to help when such things happen before our eyes – that way one cannot say they “didn’t know what to do”!”

While it is unfortunate this ‘how to’ had to be created in the first place, it relays some valuable information.
