It’s easy to ignore the less glamorous aspects of a country when you travel to it on vacation (Phuket, Thailand, anyone?) but doing so does nothing to benefit the local people or state of this world. This fact is what artist-activist MONK seeks to bring to light, and they are helping to do that in a very creative way.
As you can view below, the following travel advertisements look appealing upon first glance but expose problems few think about when they eagerly trek to popular tourist destinations.
From the refugee problem in Lesbos to the issue of child trafficking and prostitution in South East Asian countries, the unappealing realities of this world are definitely the most deserving of attention.
The artist shared with Bored Panda:
“I found an amazing illustrated poster about Palestine made by Franz Kraus, “Visit Palestine” from 1936, and I [thought to] myself: why not do some other ones, same style, but with some ‘actual and accurate subjects : pollution, migration, war, etc.
Here is the result but the project is still on going. Which city will be next?”
