How To Increase Storage Space In Your Kitchen

Do you feel like your kitchen is constantly crammed and cluttered, with almost no place for you to store any of your basic stuff? Looking all over the kitchen, you notice quite a few utilities and kitchen gear just hanging around – all because you simply do not have any space to store them. You feel helpless because you know you won’t get that “clean feel” unless you start throwing things away.

That being said, you’ll be happy to know that you won’t need to bring out the bulldozer yet. You have a lot of space in your kitchen still; you just aren’t using it properly. Here are some tricks for you to ensure that you are maximizing all the space that you have in your kitchen.

1. Start with Paring Down Supplies

Before you kick off on your crusade on how to increase your kitchen storage space, you first have to take one moment and think about your lifestyle. How much of the supplies in your kitchen do you actually consume? Are you stocking up with supplies that you don’t even use, causing you to waste storage space?

Paring down on supplies will not only prevent you from wasting food, but it will also prevent you from needlessly going into redecoration mode.

2. Use Hooks on Walls

Look at your walls – the ones that do not have any ready to assemble kitchen cabinets on them. They look bare, don’t they? It is such a high amount of wasted space. However, that space may be put to good use by simply installing a few hooks.

The beauty of hooks is that you may use them to hang items that would have otherwise taken a lot of space (think pans and other bulky items). Plus, it makes those items very easy to access, as you will not have to deal with any opening doors and the like. Once you suspend those items, you may use the cabinets to store the bigger items – the ones that cannot be suspended.

The same result can be achieved by attaching hooks to cabinet doors. This way, you may attach any small utensils or spices there, without having to sacrifice any extra space on the shelf.

3. Add Extra Shelves in Cabinets

Most rta kitchen cabinets tend to run quite deep, with one or two shelves at most where you may store the higher dishes and pots. While this might be convenient for some pieces of kitchen gear, a lot of that space tends to be wasted – because aside from pots, we also store smaller items such as cups.

This is why you might want to try installing some extra shelves in the rta cabinet. All you need are some wooden shelves and some nails to secure them into place. If that is not exactly a possibility for you, then you might want to use some shelf risers instead. These are practically introduced in the cabinet, without requiring any DIY work from you.

4. Add Slider Next to Fridge

The average kitchen tends to have a bit of extra space between the wall and your refrigerator – space that, most of the time, is let to waste. To maximize the space that you have in your kitchen, you might want to make a DIY rolling pantry (or order a customized one) to fit in that empty space.

This hidden roll-out shelf will have quite a few shelves where you may store your jars, canned goods, and other non-perishables that you don’t want to be stored in your refrigerator or kitchen cabinets. This way, you will be able to clear out the rest of your kitchen as well.

5. Corner Shelves

Corners are also some of the most overlooked spaces in your kitchen, as most of the time they end up being unused. However, when you want to put every square inch of your kitchen to good use, corner shelves can be an efficient way to do that.

Final Thoughts

Storage is not necessarily about how big your kitchen is; it’s about how you maximize the space that you already have. In most cases, we already have all the space that we need in the kitchen – we just never put it to good use.
