While approaching a bus station, a Brazilian college student named Caroline was approached by a homeless man asking for change. She began to shift items in her bag to look for some money when she realized she didn’t have her purse or her bus pass on her.

She had promised to give him change when she could find it but sadly relayed that she didn’t have any. She also concluded that she’d have to walk home.

As the homeless man watched the situation unfold, he didn’t hesitate to ask:

“Do you know how much is the ticket? Because I have $4 and I will be happy to give it to you.”

Likely taken aback, Caroline declined his generous offer. According to the student’s FB post, however, he kept insisting she take the change, regardless of the fact that she kept declining.

“Are you sure you don’t need it? You don’t have to walk back home.”

Apparently, she had found her bus pass, therefore, didn’t need his money. Still, she was stunned by his generosity. The man, whose name is Cesar, has nothing in comparison to most others, yet was willing to give it all away to help a stranger in need.

She wrote:

“I asked if I could take a picture with him to tell everyone about the size of his heart.”

Before she snapped the photo, Cesar did his best to make his appearance look less disgruntled. Caroline also gave him R$2 (all she had) in an attempt to thank him for his kindness.

Hoje venho compartilhar uma história simples, mas que me ensinou muito! Ontem ao sair da faculdade, dispensei o fretado…

It’s often said that those with the least amount of material possessions are some of the most generous. This story is certainly a testament to that!
