Pregame rituals in football have always been used as displays to get the crowd riled up and a show of confidence by both teams. No matter what level, from high school to pro, these rituals are a norm for every game.

This month, however, one high school team decided to shine the spotlight on a fellow student and cheerleader, Ashley Adamietz, who was recently diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. The senior cheerleader was diagnosed in August and has been undergoing chemotherapy ever since.

The Foothill High School football team took the time to plan a show of support for the young woman by arranging for every one of their 57 football players to run out onto the field and drop an orange rose in front of Ashley. The color orange was chosen because it is the designated color for leukemia awareness.

Adamietz was stunned by the show of love and support, and tweeted on September 3,

“I don’t know where I’d be without the support of my family, friends and most importantly, my school. I can’t thank you enough to both teams for making my first game one to remember and making me cry tears of joy. I love Foothill High School.”

Ryan Caeteno, a senior football player, was the mastermind behind the surprise operation, and told Channel 7 News,

“She’s part of the cougar family, so why not let her know that we’re all here for her. We are. So I wanted to let that be known to everybody, and especially to her, for what she’s going through.”

The football team isn’t the only support that Ashley has, however, as she was also recently voted homecoming queen by her classmates. She received orange roses as a part of her congratulatory bouquet as well, and on that night, the football team won their homecoming game 40-6 to wrap up the perfect evening.

Ashley’s upcoming treatments over the year will be difficult to say the least, but at least she has her peers backing her the whole way.
