The political climate of the current U.S. election has changed dramatically in the past year, and the biggest evidence of this is the horrifying language that many Trump supporters use to express their upset with the way America is right now.
While other political changes in this country have often ignited hope and advocated for progress, there has always been a slew of people that want everything to stay exactly as it is. Perhaps no group of supporters have ever been as vehemently in favor of this than Trump’s followers, and his campaign is actually rooted in making things the way they used to be as he chants that he wants to “Make America Great Again.”
The problem is that America has never been great for everyone, and that means all of its citizens and those trying to gain citizenship legally, at any point in time. The greatness that many supporters are angrily asking for is the system that allowed white men to prosper, people of color and those with different religious beliefs to suffer, and women of any race to be oppressed.
While this suits many people fine, it doesn’t really help out many of those who now live in America and are looking for a fair and equal opportunity at employment, salary, and housing, amongst other necessities. In fact, Trump’s supporters take it to another level by degrading some of these minorities and using slurs to put them down.
