It was a hard-knock life for Belinda Whitaker from the very beginning. She had parents that loved her, true, but she also suffered from polio at a very young age. This incurable disease left her unable to walk. Kids often enjoyed a big portion of their childhood playing outdoors, running around with bare feet as they climbed trees and played hide-and-seek. While Belinda wanted to do all that, she just couldn’t, of course. Still, she made do with what she had.

Belinda was born with a fully functioning body. But before she reached the age of five, she contracted polio. The disease causes paralysis, which was why she was unable to walk even at a tender age. There was no cure for it and the best solution was a wheelchair. Belinda was stick with the contraption for the rest of her life.
