Rio Ferdinand is no longer the caption of the English national football team, but he still retains the ability to make important decisions which have the potential to affect thousands – if not millions – of people. This was made evident when recently, the present restaurant owner donated $626,000 worth of toys and gifts to the organization Cash for Kids.

Cash for Kids is the official charity of Manchester radio station Key103 and received Ferdinand’s support because so many families hurt during the holiday season. He told the station:

“Christmas is a time when families want to get each other presents and there are obviously people that are less fortunate than we are so we want to try and help them and donate £500,000 worth of toys.”

His efforts will ensure that at least 60,000 kids who live in poverty will receive a gift on Christmas day.

Said Key103’s Charity Manager, Russell Feingold:

“We are totally overwhelmed by Rio’s amazing contribution.  This is going to help so many young children.  We now need everyone to keep supporting the campaign – the more children we can help, the more lives we can brighten up this Christmas.”

Though Christmas is about more than gifts, offering items infused with love and joy is a time-old tradition beloved by much of the public. Ferdinand’s contribution will make sure thousands of families have the opportunity to do just that.
