A marijuana distribution company named Cannabis Sativa Inc. announced this week that it would be naming former presidential candidate Gary Johnson as their new CEO and president.  Along with the announcement of the change in management, it was also announced that the company would be merging with another marijuana distributor,”Kush”.  Surprisingly, Johnson wont start off receiving a massive paycheck, according to multiple sources he will be paid only one dollar per year, but will be given equity in the company so his efforts will pay off if he does well as president and CEO.

“I generally believe this is changing the planet for the better. It also is a bet on the future … We think we have the creme de la creme of marijuana products,” Johnson said.

Johnson also said just a few months ago that he also still has aspirations of running for president in 2016.  The presidential run makes this situation a bit more interesting, because even though marijuana may be legal in Washington and Colorado, it is still technically illegal under federal law.

However, Johnson didn’t seem concerned with federal laws while talking with reporters, instead he was excited for the future.  “I think in 10 years, for the most part, the U.S. will legalize marijuana,” Johnson told the Associated Press. “And what the U.S. does, so does the world.

In addition to a variety of medical applications, the company will also focus on edible recreational marijuana products, including lozenges.  The Wall Street Journal reported that Cannabis Sativa Inc. would be developing and licensing specialized natural cannabis products, including cannabis formulas, edibles, topicals, strains, recipes and delivery systems.  The company will also work on marijuana-based oils aimed at helping children with epilepsy.

“The notion here is that this is literally a startup and somebody has got to be the leader,” he said. “Our goal is long-term, and our goal is to be a leader in the industry as the market explodes,” he said. “We’re going to be active in New Mexico. With this announcement, I can come out of the closet to say that we’re getting partners in every state.”

“We have proprietary oil lozenges that address a whole lot of physical maladies that there is not treatment for,” he said. “The research, the development, the legislation that goes along with this isn’t happening. These are issues. How do you navigate all of this? You you’re at the forefront, this is exciting. I can’t say enough about this.”

It also seems that Johnson isn’t afraid to admit that hes been testing his own products.

“Everything will be legal. But, in this case, would be targeting states that have medical marijuana programs, and this is a lozenge, and it is edible,” Johnson said. “I have an aversion to smoking marijuana. Of course I have smoked marijuana.”

“I have used the product and it’s very pleasant,” he said. “A couple things strike you: Why would anybody smoke it, given that this is an alternative; and second, it’s pleasant.”
