9. Muscle and Joint Pains
The immune response of the body to viral infections trigger the release of substances called interleukins, compounds that kill foreign invaders that cause disease in the body, such as viruses. These interleukins cause muscles and joints to swell and become painful, which is why patients with the flu often complain of difficulty moving around and prefer to just lay in bed while sick.
