A mystery unfolds
The story began in 1993. Richard and Linda had two sons and they were raising a young family in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were very much like most average American families. And like most families, there were minor problems that they’d encounter, but nothing that they couldn’t handle. There were the usual financial constraints, but husband and wife were working to ensure that their family’s needs were provided. As far as being an average American family was concerned, the Hoaglands seemed to have everything going for them. No one could tell that the family were going through anything that could ruin them. But when their sons Matthew and Douglas turned nine and six years old, strange things began to unfold.
A dark secret
The family’s problem began to unfold when Richard started acting strangely. It was as if he became an entirely different person. Linda couldn’t help but notice the odd behavior that her husband was unsuccessfully trying to conceal. She knew he was up to something. At times, he became reclusive and he became defensive whenever Linda would approach him to try to find out what was going on. But as it turned out, that he was keeping a dark secret. He became more withdrawn as days passed, and Linda was starting to notice. She just brushed it off and didn’t have the strength to pursue the terrible thought.
