“We have an economy that’s in real trouble. But when the economy is in this kind of trouble, calling on Donald Trump for help is like if your house is on fire, calling an arsonist to come help out.”
This is just one of the controversial and hilarious things Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Senator, said about Donald Trump in an interview she did with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show.
The U.S. Senator discussed the success of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, of which she wouldn’t say who she’s voting for, and ultimately got down to why she thinks Trump is a loser but a force to be reckoned with.
Colbert brought out three tweets from Warren that all contain the word “loser” and are in regards to Donald Trump. The three tweets Colbert referenced can be seen below:
When Colbert asked Warren why this shouldn’t just be considered schoolyard name-calling, Warren explained her angle of attacks on Trump like this:
“This isn’t name-calling. This is taking the credential that he claims he is running on, and that is his business success, and saying ‘No Buster, we’re not buying that.’ He is not a business success. He is a business loser.”
Colbert rebutted by saying “He’s still a rich guy,” to which Warren explained that some of the analysts say, “if all the money he inherited from his dad he just put into index funds, he’d be just about as rich as he is today. In other words, he wasn’t out there doing these fabulous deals, he started out rich, he cheated his way to getting richer. That is not going to build an America for hard-working people.”
Warren’s words may be harsh, but her reason for calling Trump a loser because he so often claims he is a winner seems justified and spot-on. As an important U.S. Senator, her opinion carries a lot of weight, and calling the Republican front-runner a loser is absolutely a heavy weight for Trump to carry.
Warren ended her interview by having this positive message about the Democratic nominees:
“Right now, the Democrats are doing exactly what we should be doing. We’re out talking about the issues that affect hard-working families. Student loans, social security, more cops on Wall Street, trade.”
Although she didn’t specify who she’s endorsing, the Senator is positive that the Democratic presidential candidates are right on track with the party’s goals.
