Tennessee-native Dolly Parton is stepping up to help victims of the forest fires which began raging in the southeast of the U.S. late November. Reportedly, the singer and actress announced on Wednesday that her foundation will donate $1,000 every month to each family affected by the wildfires.

The Parton Foundation, in addition to a collective of companies – including the Dollywood theme park, resort, and dinner theater – have contributed to the Sevier Country fundraiser known as the “My People Fund.”

Families and individuals affected by the fires need the assistance. According to Gatlinburg Mayor Mike Werner, what’s taking place “is a fire for the history books.”

“It’s unlike anything we’ve every seen,” Werner said.

Several hundred homes have been damaged by the fires, along with thousands of acres of Tennessee wilderness. Parton’s donation will go a long way in helping those affected by the natural disaster, but more assistance is still needed.
