Controlled Opposition: Trump Called For Open Borders Just Three Years Ago

Recent emails released by Wikileaks have shown that Donald Trump was intentionally “elevated” by the Clinton campaign as a way to make Hillary Clinton look better during the general election. Though the general consensus has been that Trump was unknowingly elevated by Clinton, there is considerable evidence suggesting that Trump’s rhetoric and campaign persona were crafted to scare a majority of Americans into voting for Clinton over their preferred candidate. For example, Trump and the Clintons are long-time friends, so much so that the Clintons received front row seats at Trump’s luxury wedding in 2005. Trump, his daughter Ivanka, and her father-in-law Charles Kushner have all donated thousands of dollars to the Clinton Foundation, an organization which Trump now calls “the most corrupt enterprise in political history.” Ivanka and Hillary’s daughter Chelsea are also close friends.

Also very telling was the mysterious phone call Trump received from former President Bill Clinton just two weeks before his candidacy was announced. Trump is even recorded on video praising Clinton’s unsuccessful 2008 run for the presidency, calling her “a very nice person” and said that she has been “pretty badly abused” by the Obama campaign. He also called Bill Clinton a “great president” and that “everyone was happy” during his term except those who were “jealous as hell.” These words are in stark contrast to Trump’s recent comments about Hillary being “a nasty woman” and Bill being a “rapist.”

However, most concerning of all – at least to Trump supporters – is a 2013 Op-Ed written by Trump for CNN. In the editorial titled “Europe is a terrific place for investment” calls for many things that are totally against the central tenets of his current campaign, among them a plea for open borders. Discussing Europe’s massive refugee crisis, Trump said “the solution is clear. We will have to leave borders behind and go for global unity when it comes to financial stability.” He continued: “I think we’ve all become aware of the fact that our cultures and economics are intertwined. It’s a complex mosaic that cannot be approached with a simple formula for the correct pattern to emerge. In many ways, we are in unchartered waters. The good news, in one respect, is that what is done affects us all. There won’t be any winners or losers as this is not a competition. It’s a time for working together for the best of all involved. Never before has the phrase “we’re all in this together” had more resonance or relevance.”

This is a far cry from Trump’s current campaign rhetoric. In fact, increased border security is arguably the foundation of his entire campaign and much of his base has been energized by his “anti-globalist” stances on major issues. Indeed, Trumps’ call to “leave borders behind and go for global unity” is practically an endorsement of global governance, something a majority of his supporters are adamantly against. With more bombshells from Wikileaks being released every day, it’s quite possible we’ll soon know if Trump, like Hillary, has a “public” and “private” position, perhaps hand-crafted by the Clinton campaign itself.
