It’s hard to comprehend how some people can take pleasure out of killing innocent animals that mean them no harm.

In a shocking series of photos that have surfaced on Facebook, a group of heartless poachers in Malaysia are seen posing with the carcass of a rare clouded leopard, seemingly taking pleasure at the poor animal’s death. The beautifully-marked cat species, known scientifically as Neofelis nebulosa, is identified as “vulnerable” in the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s list of animals nearing extinction, making the incident truly atrocious.

The images were uploaded earlier in May 2019 by a person identified as Max Mantra, who says that the leopard was slaughtered in Tampin, in Negeri Sembilan. The photos have been taken down since, but not before outraged netizens got a hold of them and re-posted them for awareness.

A concerned netizen named Siva Nadarajan, tried notifying Malaysia’s Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia about the horrifying photos but was informed that the agency would not be able to act on his complaint due to the perpetrators having left the scene of the crime already.

What enraged netizens were the callous smiles on the murderers faces as they posed for the camera, mere moments after killing a cat whose numbers in the wild are now dwindling. Experts believe that there are only about 10,000 of the clouded leopard left in the wild.
