It was reported this week that an anarchist group called No Borders, coordinated an effort along the British border, to help refugees break through the barricades and enter the country.
According to the Daily Mail, roughly 200 refugees broke through the channel tunnel with the support of British anarchists, both clashing with police and security forces.
The refugees have been camped near Calais for weeks in horrible slum-like conditions with very little hope of actually making it through to start a new life.
In a statement, Eurotunnel services said that “It’s clearly an organised attack when it comes in such a large number, there are over 100 in this one group. They arrived together and in a well-organised manner broke through the fences and all clearly knew where they were going. They ran through the terminal, knocking some staff to the ground and throwing stones at them. There are some minor injuries to staff and also two police officers. They were treated at the scene by paramedics.”
Police made 23 arrests and sent many of the refugees back to the camp, but it was not disclosed how many of them actually made it through.
Police representative Gilles Debove said that “This is being encouraged not by human traffickers, who wish to remain discreet, but by extreme Left elements here to manipulate the migrants in the name of their ideal of imposing a country without borders or police. Among these activists are quite a few Britons.”
According to the No Borders website, “Many, though not all, people in the No Borders network think of ourselves as anarchists. We believe a world without borders must also mean a world without states.”
Many of the anti-immigration commenters who have been against allowing the refugees to move from their war-torn homes, have claimed that Syrian migrants would be a drain on the economy and would eat up the benefits and welfare that Europeans receive. However, this is not true, many of the migrants are skilled and willing workers who don’t want any handouts, they just want to work and own their own property in place that is relatively peaceful and safe to raise children.
As we have been reporting in recent weeks, the refugee situation in Europe has been met with both uplifting and disappointing reactions. Germany has been extremely open and generous to the refugees while other places are more resistant. We reported earlier this week that Naguib Sawiris, an Egyptian billionaire and philanthropist, has decided to “be the change” and help remedy the Syrian refugee crisis by purchasing an island in the Mediterranean to provide a new home to those displaced by the civil war.
