Members of the Secret Service quickly removed Trump from the stage at a Nevada rally after a man allegedly holding a gun was identified in the audience.
With Election Day only three days away, tensions between supporters of the two major party candidates are running high. However, things nearly turned violent for Republican candidate Donald Trump who was the target of an alleged gunman Saturday night (November 5th) at a rally in Reno, Nevada. Details regarding the incident are currently scarce, meaning the exact nature of the threat is not known at this time. A video taken by a Trump supporter at the rally shows Secret Service agents rushing Trump off the stage while another video shows a man being escorted out of the rally by law enforcement. Before being hurriedly escorted off the stage, Trump had noticed a protestor in the crowd and had asked event security to remove him. The man appears to have attempted to rush the stage, provoking the Secret Service’s response. Some media outlets have noted that people can be heard yelling “He’s got a gun!” in the crowd. However, some reports claim that no gun was found on the man escorted from the scene. The alleged gunman was taken off the rally floor under heavy police escort.
After the man had been removed from the rally, Trump returned 5 minutes later to continue his speech and to thank law enforcement for protecting him. Trump said: “I would like to thank the United States Secret Service and the law enforcement resources in Reno and the State of Nevada for their fast and professional response. I also want to thank the many thousands of people present for their unwavering and unbelievable support. Nothing will stop us – we will make America great again!”
This alleged assassination attempt is the second such attempt to occur at a Donald Trump rally this year. The previous attempt took place at a rally in Las Vegas in June. The previous would-be gunman, 20 year old British national Michael Sanford, tried to pull a gun from the holster of a police officer at the rally, hoping to use that weapon to kill Trump. Trump rallies, in general, have seen their share of violence in recent months. However, a Project Veritas investigation found that many of the provocateurs were on the payroll of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and were trained by Clinton-supporting nonprofits in how to best incite violence at the rallies. Yet, neither of the two alleged gunmen seeking to kill Trump have so far been connected to the activities of these nonprofits. With the US election quickly approaching, it seems likely that more unexpected violence will take place over the next 72 hours as tensions in America reach a boiling point.
