It was Ralph Waldo Emerson who said, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Mama Cax, a lifestyle, food, and fashion blogger, would likely agree.
At age 14, the fashionista was diagnosed with cancer and given only 3 weeks to live. Fortunately, amputating her leg saved her life. She could have cowered away from the world in embarrassment, but Cax instead chose to embrace the life she was given and live it to the fullest.
Now, she’s a successful blogger with a huge following. Passionate about food, travel, and fashion, Cax inspires many because she refuses to feel less about herself even though her body isn’t what society depicts to be beautiful or ideal.
Cax told Bored Panda:
“I recognize how lucky I am and that many can’t afford medical treatments and people with disabilities as a whole face unparalleled discrimination. In many parts of the world, they are politically and socially excluded. I feel like I’m in a position to make a difference and one day be an advocate for people with disabilities.”
Mama Cax recognizes that by living her fullest expression, others might find the courage to deem themselves beautiful and follow their dreams. She says,
“I think humanity or the lack thereof keeps me moving forward. Seeing all the kindness in the world and people who have supported me on my journey makes me feel like I shouldn’t give up.”
To those who aren’t yet confident enough to accept themselves, she advises:
“Accomplishing all the goals you set up for yourself will be proof of your success. If today doesn’t work the way you planned, let tomorrow be your do-over.”
“Scars, we can hate them all we want but at the end of the day, they still remain part of us, they tell our stories of struggle and survival,” she adds.
