Watch the cat, named Pooh, use his specially crafted prosthetics!
A beautiful cat named Pooh is one of the rare few animals in the world to have received bionic body parts. Such were necessary, however, because the kitty was reportedly struck by a car or even a train in a small town in Bulgaria (no one knows for sure). After Pooh was found, a compassionate woman transported him to an animal clinic in Sofia, Bulgarian’s capital.
There, the cat was examined by surgeon Vladislav Zlatinov. The veterinarian was aware that without surgery (and if the procedure failed), the animal would need to be euthanized. He hoped for the best and fortunately, Pooh came out alright on the other side.
Instead of leaving the cat to drag his behind for the remainder of his life, Zlatinov decided to do something innovative: he developed prosthetics to give Pooh new legs.
“I had the vague idea that this is done, but it sounded impossible for our practice,” Zlatinov told Reuters. “But I wanted to try.”
The best part? It worked!
“He’s doing surprisingly well so far,” Zlatinov said. “Pooh can move freely on flat surfaces — walking, running, even making small jumps… What’s important is that he doesn’t seem to be in pain.”
Because of Pooh’s success, Zlatinov and other medical professionals are considering doing similar for various creatures in need.
“We’re very proud,” Zlatinov shared. “It was quite a success … It gives hope to other patients.”
The following photos show Pooh proudly using his new bionic legs. In a short period of time, the cat will be ready for adoption, reports The Dodo. He is presently at a rescue shelter called Let’s Adopt Bulgaria.
