American’s Want To Replace Andrew Jackson With Harriet Tubman On $20 Bill

moneyAn effort called “Women on 20’s” is hoping to add some diversity to the people who are memorized on America’s currency. As it stands now, our money is filled with nothing but white male aristocrats that are long dead and were very much figures of the establishment.

The group tallied hundreds of thousands of votes all throughout the country, and after two rounds of voting, Harriet Tubman was the clear winner. Following behind her was Wilma Mankiller, Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks, and it was refreshing to see that most of the women selected were not members of the political establishment, but activists.

Harriet Tubman won with a total of 118,328 votes, while Roosevelt came in second place with 111,227.

“Our paper bills are like pocket monuments to great figures in our history. Our work won’t be done until we’re holding a Harriet $20 bill in our hands in time for the centennial of women’s suffrage in 2020,” Executive Director Susan Ades Stone told the Washington Post.

U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios told Fortune Magazine last year that the government may be open to making these types of changes to the currency.
