13. Surprise!

On 19 July 2015, at the J-Bay Open finals, Mick Fanning encountered what is suspected to be a great white shark. Fanning tried to put his board between the shark and his body eventually punching the animal away to swim back to the shore, luckily he wasn’t bitten. Within a week of surviving this “shark attack” the surfer returned to the water.
