Sometimes, life demands a bit of creativity. For those willing to think outside of the box, such challenges can be incredibly rewarding. Just take a look at what a couple based in the UK did when their landlord banned cat flaps!

Oxford University PhD student Tariq Khoyratty constructed an elegant ‘catwalk’ for his feline friend after he and his girlfriend, Nikki, were banned from installing one in their apartment. Reportedly, they live in a Grade II building, meaning the structure has historical significance and is protected under various regulations. In effect, it’s nearly impossible to make building alterations.

Because of this, the scientist decided to construct a ladder that extends from the ground to a second-floor window. Metro.co.uk reports that to entice their orange tabby cat, Nelson, to use the ladder, the couple taught him how to use a small one on ground level.

“We were a little apprehensive at first as to whether he’d use the ladder so we made a small practice one which we propped against the downstairs window,” says Tariq. “Once he was used to that, we coaxed him onto the larger ladder with treats and he took to it very quickly.”

According to the feline’s humans, this is the main route the cat uses to get inside. And just in case Nelson falls, he will be cushioned by rugs which Tariq installed around the base of the ladder. The best part is that the unconventional, 7-meter cat entrance cost just $30.

And cost just $30 to put together.

That’s one happy cat!
