Food, water, and shelter might be the basic needs one might require to survive, but personal hygiene is also a necessity, states activist Jake Austin.

The kind samaritan considered that when most people step up to help the homeless, they cover only the basic bases. But, he pondered, what people also need are free facilities to shower so they might regain some of their dignity.

With that in mind, he got to work seeking out an old truck he could convert into a mobile shower for people living on the streets. He’s been working with homeless individuals for years, so had confidence that his bright idea could help many.

DeMilked reports that Austin was in luck when he found an old truck for $5,000. Immediately, he began renovating it and dubbed it “Shower to the People.”

In the mobile shower, two shower stalls and a long row of sinks and mirrors are available to individuals living without a home. Free soap is also gifted to those who use the facility. Water is sourced from fire hydrants and is warmed up with the help of an external generator.

As Austin says it,

“Good hygiene promotes health, fosters hope, and restores dignity to those who may have lost it.”

People explain their first impressions:

Hopefully in the future, homelessness will no longer be an issue. At least at present, activists like Austin are doing what they can to help homeless people regain some of their dignity.
