When a man without hands walked into a Georgia restaurant, he ordered his food and then sat down. He had no intention of drawing attention to his predicament but ended up needing to ask for assistance from one of the staff members.

Waiter Alex Ruiz could have helped the man then continued on with his duties, but he instead chose to sit down and feed the man his meal bite for bite. Throughout the entire meal, the young worker smiled and made small talk with the man.

According to staff and patrons of the Cinco de Mayo Mexican Grill, the touching scene lasted half an hour.

One of the regulars at the cafe, Reginald Widener, snapped a photo of the exchange and posted it Facebook. As expected, it promptly went viral.

She wrote:

“So I’m at cinco de mayo and Alex (server) had a man come in with no hands. So Alex is now helping the man eat his lunch. This seriously hit me right in the soul. Still good ppl in the world”

When CBS News followed up with Widener, she commented:

“Southern hospitality is real down here. People do kind things all the time that’s above and beyond what normally happens.”

Mainstream media might depict the world as a brutish and dangerous place, but there are plenty of good people willing to go the extra mile to help others.
