Not since Halloween 2008, the year Batman: The Dark Night was released in theaters, have so many clowns been spotted on the streets. Though the phenomenon might be humorous to some, it’s proven to be downright traumatizing to a number of people – particularly kids.

Because of this, a man with Cumbria Superheroes decided to “be the change” by dressing up as Batman and chase those who are clowning around. Reportedly, the caped crusader was inspired to don a superhero’s costume after learning that the clowns are affecting kids to the point that some can’t sleep at night.

While he’s not an actual vigilante, his presence is helping to soothe kids’ fears about the clowns. In fact, one kid sent a Facebook message to a local news outlet to thank ‘Batman’ for his aid. The message read:

“I have been scared of this clown situation (school told us about it yesterday). I seen on my mammy fb [Facebook] that you caught the clown. This means I can go to school and not be scared, thank you for your efforts.”

A reasoning for the viral trend has not yet been discerned, but at least kids in Cumbria are less frightened thanks to an unconventional activist who’s donning a Batman costume.
