It Took 23 Years To Find The Culprit

In spite of the Tempe Police Department trying to find out who was responsible, the case would run cold for over 23 years. Then amazingly, in May of 2001, there were a few other assaults that happened that led them to a man named Clarence Wayne Dixon. He had been caught before and had been released on parole in 1986. But then he would go right back to committing his horrific crimes against women, and would be caught once more. This is when they would find out that Dixon happened to live across the road from Deana when she was killed, and his DNA matched that of the case of Deana. He was sentenced to death by a jury, finally giving her family the justice they had hoped for 30 years since her death.
