5 Biggest Revelations From The Latest Podesta Emails

Wikileaks’ releases of the now infamous “Podesta Emails” have become such a regular occurrence, it’s becoming difficult to keep up. 11 “batches” have been released so far, bringing the total to 17,510 with an estimated 32,000 left to go before the US election takes place on November 8th. Though True Activist covered many of the earlier leaks, including the transcripts of Clinton’s private speeches and Clinton’s admission that the Saudis are funding ISIS, many other potentially damning revelations have since come to light. Here are the top 5 newest revelations from the last 3 email releases (#9 to 11).

1. Clinton’s “Evolution” on LGBT Rights is a sham

Though many have now heard that Hillary Clinton has a “public” and “private” position on almost every issue – thanks to leaked transcripts of her private, paid speeches – LGBT rights were, until now, not mentioned among them. However, new emails reveal that Clinton’s reasoning over her and her husband’s support of the much-maligned Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was known to be false by her campaign, destroying her claim that her support of DOMA was intended to protect the LGBT community from “something worse.” Podesta himself argued in the email that Clinton needed “to stay down” and avoid broaching the issue publicly in order to avoid losing LGBT support to then-rival Sanders, who had also attacked Clinton over her false statements regarding her position on DOMA.

2. “Making Soros Happy” Revealed to be Strong Motivator for Clinton Campaign

George Soros, billionaire investor and currency speculator, has been at the heart of speculation for years regarding his undue influence in the US as well as global politics, which was confirmed following the recent hack of Soros’ Open Society Foundation. Wikileaks’ latest releases have also shown this to be the case as new emails show Soros’ critical importance in the Clinton campaign. In an email exchange between Robby Mook, Clinton campaign manager, and Huma Abdein, longtime Clinton aide, discusses the political importance of pleasing Soros. Mook told Abedin “I would only do this for political reasons (ie to make Soros happy)” in response to Abedin’s question regarding whether or not Clinton should a attend a Soros-hosted fundraiser. Several previous emails have shown that meetings between Soros, Clinton, and Clinton operatives are a regular occurrence.

Another particularly concerning Soros-related email took place between Podesta and Chris Stone, president of the Open Society Foundation. The email titled “RE: Scalia replacement,” which literally took place on the day of Antonin Scalia’s death, shows that the Open Society Foundation supplied Clinton with “her choice” for Scalia’s replacement on the Supreme Court. Stone wrote “Remember our discussion of Wallace Jefferson, Chief Justice in Texas?” to which Podesta responded “yup.” Rumors about Podesta and Scalia were ignited after a previously released email written by Podesta referenced “wet works,” slang for assassination, days before Scalia died. However, no further emails have shed light on this particular word choice or event. Speculation aside, the strong influence of a billionaire and private citizen in Clinton’s campaign is cause for concern.

3. Clinton Campaign Sees Diversity as a Political Tactic, Not a Value

Recent email releases have also shown that the Clinton campaign has attempted to strategically place minorities in “useful” positions within the campaign as a political tactic, not because the opinion of ethnic minorities were valued. In an email, titled “RE: black vote,” the suggestion is made to appoint an African-American to a high-ranking position in the campaign, such as vice chair or senior adviser, to dispel common complaints that “the campaign doesn’t value black folks.Another email, released just today, also showed difficulty in finding a “candidate of color” for a campaign chair that would be acceptable to Clinton donors. When the seemingly ideal candidate declined, Podesta wrote

That sucks. Can you call Larry and see what minorities he would put in top tier? Could be an asian. I know this isn’t Larry’s taste, but better if a woman.

Podesta also referred to Latino activists and politicians as “needy Latinos” in earlier leaks.

4. Wall Street Handpicked Obama’s Entire 2008 Cabinet

Though most of the leaks thus far have been focused largely on Clinton and her campaign, some of the released emails have shed light on corruption within the Obama administration. In 2008, at the height of the financial crisis, an executive from CitiGroup emailed John Podesta one month before Podesta was named chairman of Obama’s 2008 transition team. CitiGroup, at the time, was the largest company and bank in the world by assets. The email from CitiGroup executive Michael Froman is titled “Lists.” The lists within, naming prospective candidates for cabinet positions, matches Obama’s 2008 Cabinet almost exactly. They also suggest choosing candidates of various ethnic minorities as a political tactic (see #3 above).

The email proposed: Robert Gates as secretary of Defense; Eric Holder as attorney general; Janet Napolitano as secretary of Homeland Security; Rahm Emanuel as White House chief of staff; Susan Rice as United Nations ambassador; Arne Duncan as secretary of Education; Kathleen Sebelius as secretary of Health and Human Services; Peter Orszag as head of the Office of Management and Budget; Eric Shinseki as secretary of Veterans Affairs; and Melody Barnes as chief of the Domestic Policy Council.

Froman offered Podesta with three possibilities for the position of Secretary of the Treasury: Robert Rubin and his close disciples Lawrence Summers and Timothy Geithner. Obama ultimately chose Geithner, who was then president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Geithner, along with Bush Treasury Secretary and former Goldman Sachs CEO Henry Paulson and then-Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, were those chiefly responsible for organizing the Wall Street bailout.

5. Goldman Sachs Speech Full Transcripts Expose Clinton’s Hawkish Ambitions

Last but not least, emails containing the full transcripts for all three of Clinton’s private speeches to Goldman Sachs were among those most recently released. Some have argued that this has been one of the most damning revelations of all as Wikileaks cited its release as the main reason behind the recent severance of Julian Assange’s internet connection. Of particular interest is Clinton’s mention of Syria during the speeches. She again confirms that the Saudis are funding “jihadists” and said that she was “doubtful that Asad [sic] will move out of the way.

Equally stunning was her admission that a no-fly zone in Syria, a move she strongly supports, will result in the death of “a lot of Syrians.” Clinton’s hawkishness was further showcased in another speech where she promised that her administration plans “to ring China with missile defense” despite already-high US/China tension regarding territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
