7. Don’t Expect Everyone to Speak English
Many people think that since many tourists visit Guatemala yearly, that locals there know how to speak English, an assumption that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Spanish remains the Guatemala’s official language so learning how to speak the native tongue could greatly help when asking for directions or even when bargaining in souvenir shops.
If you want to immerse yourself more into the rich Guatemalan, try to polish up on your Spanish. You’ll never know, you might even get to make friends with some of the friendly locals.
