48. Avoid Playing the Hero
In the off-chance that you find yourself falling victim to mugging, avoid playing the hero and cooperate with the criminals. No material possession is worth risking your life for so do as they tell you to do and avoid resisting or fighting them. One regular visitor to Guatemala even suggested preparing a “fake wallet” filled with a small amount of cash, so that in case of a mugging, one can readily surrender it to the thief to prevent the situation from escalating.
