Chichicastes are prickly plants found all over Guatemala, particularly in a town near Antigua called Chichicastenango, which literally translates to “land of the chichicaste. The plants are quite similar to poison ivy as Its stems contain tiny hairs that will stick to your skin when touched. When this happens, the tiny hairs break off and release a toxin which causes a stinging and burning sensation that can be quite brutal, especially to those who are prone to allergies and hypersensitivity reactions.
