2. Do not Forget to Bring Cash

Keeping cash and loose change handy will work to your advantage once you set foot in Guatemala as ATM machines and banks will only be available once you enter the larger towns. However, these ATMs can be quite outdated, which means that your newer cards might not be readable, preventing you from being able to use them. Should you need to have your money changed into the local currency, do so in banks such as the Banco Azteca (also known as Elektra) which can be found in most towns.
