27. Don’t Take the Famous “Chicken Buses”

Travelling around Guatemala can be an adventure itself and taking the famous “Chicken Buses” can be quite tempting. The vehicles are former US school buses that have been re-purposed to provide the country’s riding public with a means to get from one place to another. The buses got their names from the colorful “plumage” they have, a testament to Guatemalan creativity and flair.

But don’t let their attractive paintjobs lure you into taking them as these are notorious for having reckless and unsafe drivers.
